Ernesto de la Cruz is a fictional character who appears in the 2017 Disney Pixar animated film “Coco.” Here is a short history of the character and three facts about him:

• Ernesto de la Cruz is a famous musician and actor who is idolized by the film’s protagonist, a young boy named Miguel. Miguel dreams of becoming a musician like de la Cruz, but his family forbids music due to a generations-old ban.
• Throughout the course of the film, it is revealed that de la Cruz is not the hero he was once believed to be. In reality, he stole music and lyrics from his former partner and friend, Héctor, and passed them off as his own. He also betrayed Héctor by poisoning him and stealing his guitar, which he uses as his own signature instrument.
• Despite his villainous actions, de la Cruz remains a beloved figure in the world of the film, with many characters admiring him and his music.
